It should be noted on this presentation that Richard is not representing the VA. And to lessen the stigma of asking for help, which is the hardest step to take but which can possibly save a career. Previously, he retired as a master sergeant from the IL State Police after completing 22.5 years of service. While with the state police he held positions with the drug interdiction patrol detail, supervised the E. St. Louis/state police effort to combat crime in the inner city, and worked in human resources near the end of his career where he was assisted with rebuilding the peer support program, the critical incident debriefing teams, and was assisted with developing and teaching the Stress Management for Police and Families program which was subsequently taught throughout all of the state police districts in Illinois. Prior to that he was a small city police officer in Illinois and before that he was a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps attached to the military police company.
