A fire department does not know when it will have a line-of-duty death or serious injury and fire chiefs and survivors tell us that most fire departments are not prepared for these events. This presentation will discuss the various aspects of handling a firefighter line of duty death including pre-incident planning, survivor notification, family and coworker support, and benefits and resources available.

  • Understand the basic concepts for handling a firefighter line of duty death
  • Understand the components of the Public Safety Officer Benefit program, who is eligible for the benefit and how to apply
